The Family behind
Couple Jerry and Lourdes Go are devotees of the Divine Mercy and active servants of the Couples for Christ and Basic Ecclesiastical Community, Surigao City Chapter. Their religious and prayerful life led them to the idea of establishing this foundation. They say it came as a message from the Lord way back in year 2005. At first, it was unclear to them what kind of foundation they were going to establish. The discernment took months and they had to share this dream to their children, Karyssa and Jelou, for having this Foundation meant losing any future ‘mana’. But the children were supportive and they selflessly succumbed to their parent’s desire. Thereafter, the entire family discerned.
Initially, they thought of a foundation for deserving students who cannot afford college. Then, the plan changed to a home for the aged in response to the need of a center that caters to old-aged Surigaonons. But another message from the Lord came through Karyssa who suggested in including the orphans. Hence, the final commitment was to build a home for both orphans and aged Surigaonons.
The Site
Ground breaking ceremonies culminated last June 3, 2008 at the foundation’s site situated eight kilometers away from the city proper. The 1.6 hectares of land at Barangay Orok, Surigao City, Mindanao, Philippines will be utilized as the base of this Foundation. Circling the Divine Mercy Shrine is the prayer cottage, grotto, orphanage building, chapel, 3 storey administration building, home for the aged and piazza, while the public highway cuts across the lot area providing plain green fields at the other side of the site. The unpopulated vicinity with scattered fruit-bearing trees promises a sanctuary of peace and tranquility for the tender-aged and seniors.
At present, the prayer cottage is already fully constructed while the nursery building is still under construction. Click here for the site’s development plan.
